HealthPlus of Michigan can save you time and effort in managing
your clients’ benefits. HealthPlus makes benefit/client
management easier and more convenient for you – freeing
you up to do what you do best – service your customers.
Team Approach
Our goal is to work with you as a long-term partner helping
you build your business. The team consists of sales managers,
account executives and sales associates. Your HealthPlus account
executive supports your sales efforts by providing leadership
to the internal HealthPlus team. He or she also assists in
your quoting and selling activities as well as your upfront
efforts to educate the customer, make the sale and coordinate
open enrollment meetings to educate the member. The sales
associate is your HPM administrative arm who will ensure that
all your administrative needs are met. The associate works
closely with your staff to ensure that you have all necessary
supplies and forms and is prepared to respond to all of your
questions.
Once the sale is completed, our account executives continue
to work with you to provide ongoing service. The sales manager
oversees the efforts of the team and ensures that you receive:
- Quick and efficient quote processing
- Sales presentations
- Client and member
education
- Timely program resolution

NCQA Ratings
The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) is an independent
organization that evaluates managed care plans across the nation.
Its evaluation process is rigorous and thorough, its findings
unbiased and objective. Once again, HealthPlus of Michigan invited
the NCQA to scrutinize every aspect of our health plan - our
physicians, our policies and guidelines, even the way we communicate
with our members. Using its demanding criteria (including preventive
health services, medical records, physician qualifications and
evaluations, member rights and responsibilities, and utilization
management), the NCQA found HealthPlus of Michigan HMO has achieved
the status of Excellent Accreditation. The NCQA’s review
encourages us to continue to improve the quality of care and
service we offer to all HealthPlus members. And our Excellent
Accreditation confirms that our efforts have been effective.
CAHPS
HealthPlus, a managed care organization serving more than 180,000
members in 13 mid-Michigan counties, offers the highest-rated
overall health plan in Michigan, according to an independent
national survey conducted of health plan members. The same
survey also indicated that members rate HealthPlus as the
top health plan in Michigan in Claims Processing.
The survey results placed HealthPlus on the National Committee
for Quality Assurance (NCQA) national "Top 10 Accredited
Organizations in Member Satisfaction Measures" list for
the second consecutive year. The list is included in the organization's
annual "State of Health Care Quality" report. This
inclusion means that HealthPlus members have rated HealthPlus
as being among the best health plans in the nation in the following
categories:

Flexible plans for every size and type of company
Every HealthPlus plan assures high quality care, backed by our
demanding standards for personal service and professional
integrity.
HealthPlus offers flexible health plans that provide access
to quality care and outstanding value. HealthPlus partners with
primary care physicians and members to ensure that the right
care is provided at the right time, for the right cost. Your
clients benefit from quality care management for their employees
and from our flexible managed care plan designs, which can include
cost-sharing options to reduce premiums. Here is a brief overview
of the plan types available:
HealthPlus HMO
HealthPlus HMO offers comprehensive health coverage for at a
fixed monthly premium, while minimizing out-of-pocket expenses.
Members can choose their own Primary Care Physician, who coordinates
all of the member’s care, from among the HealthPlus
network of more than 1,000 medical providers. Covered preventive
services include check-ups, immunizations, mammograms, cholesterol
screenings, worldwide coverage for emergencies and flexible
benefit plan design to meet individual financial needs.
- HealthPlus POS
HealthPlus POS is a Point-of-Service plan that gives members
the flexibility to combine managed care and traditional health
plans into one plan option, with the freedom to choose any
doctor, specialist, hospital or medical facility they wish.
Members can choose to receive care through a HealthPlus in-network
Primary Care Physician to get maximum coverage at minimum
out-of-pocket cost, or choose to use a non-network doctor
or hospital at a higher out-of-pocket expense.
HealthPlus Options
For many companies, self-funding health care benefits provides
the advantages of maximization of cash flow, lower costs,
and benefit customization without reduction of the level of
benefits members receive. As a licensed third-party administrator,
and a wholly-owned subsidiary of HealthPlus of Michigan, HealthPlus
Options allows employers to offer a more aggressively managed
care program with additional benefit flexibility. This flexibility
allows groups to implement an HMO or POS program. As a self-funded
program, it eliminates insurance company premiums and gives
additional control of cash flow. Our knowledgeable representatives
will work assist you in determining whether a self-funding
option would be best for your client.
HealthPlus AdvantagePlans
HealthPlus recently introduced its new deductible health plans,
the AdvantagePlans. These plans offer a wide range of benefit
levels at lower costs for employers without sacrificing the
quality and value that HealthPlus customers have come to expect.
The AdvantagePlans, like the rest of products, encourage and
provide preventive health care services and include programs
to keep your employees healthy such as health risk appraisals,
tobacco cessation and weight reduction. HealthPlus AdvantagePlans
are available for employer groups with 2 or more employees.
Provider Relations
HPM has developed alliances with health care providers who share
our vision of improving the health of our community. The goal
of our physicians is to provide the appropriate care in the
appropriate setting - in the most cost-effective
manner.
At HealthPlus of Michigan, we aim to develop services and systems
to help our physicians take better care of their patients. Our
success is measured by the recent physician satisfaction survey
which indicated that 76 percent of primary care physicians within
our network are highly satisfied with HealthPlus.
Extensive provider network
HealthPlus offers more than 700 primary care physicians and
1,700 specialists and contracts with 10 hospitals in mid-Michigan,
including 125 ancillary providers such as nursing homes, mental
health facilities, laboratories, durable medical equipment
providers, ambulance services, and pharmacy chains.
Highly trained customer service
Our customer service department is dedicated to serving our
members. In fact, HealthPlus was rated No. 1 in the entire
nation for customer service in 2002 according the Consumer
Assessment of Health Plans Survey (CAHPS) conducted by the
NCQA that year. HealthPlus offers a toll-free 800 line & toll-free
TDD line, and convenient service hours to meet our members’ needs.
Members can also communicate with HealthPlus 24 hours a day
through our Member On-line Service Center available on our
website.
High performance standards - Always going the extra mile
HealthPlus is proud of our achievements and stability, however
we have never been content to sit on our laurels. We are constantly
seeking new and innovative ways to provide the best value
for our customers. Some unique features of our plan include
the following:
- Members are allowed to change Primary Care Physician
(PCP) monthly
- Each family member may choose their own PCP
- Wellness programs,
such as tobacco cessation, health risk appraisals and weight
management, are built into the plans
- Case management programs
are offered for catastrophic illness or injured members
Chronic Illness Management Service
Living with a chronic illness such as depression, diabetes,
heart disease, or asthma can be overwhelming. That is why
HealthPlus offers programs that address the self-management
needs of members with such conditions. HealthPlus has a staff
of nurses and social workers who work closely with doctors
to provide members with valuable information about their illnesses,
including ways to monitor their progress and prevent complications.
The development of a self-management program that works with
the individual’s lifestyle is essential for overall
health promotion.
